During their Freshman year, all USC Aiken Teaching Fellows take Emerging Leaders, a university-wide class for identified student leaders. Part of the leadership experience is going to a local “ropes” course in Aiken. Each year, I hear how easy this course is; not physically or mentally challenging the Fellows to problem-solve, collaborate, or experience true leadership first hand. Well . . . . The USC Aiken Sophomore Teaching Fellows just returned from their experience trip in Charleston. And to assure that they would have an opportunity to problem-solve, collaborate, and experience true leadership first hand, they spent a half-day on the Charleston Ropes Course. Riddle-solving, teamwork, a bit of physics, a bit more nerves, a blindfold and a zip-line later, the Fellows came away physically exhausted but wholly enriched by new opportunities to practice leadership. LEAD-Up, Aiken Fellows!
