Jennifer Wise
2017 South Carolina Teacher of the Year
Jennifer Wise is the 2017 SC Teacher of the Year. Wise began her teaching career in August of 2008 at Hand Middle School. A native of Gaffney, SC, Wise attended the University of South Carolina as a Teaching Fellow and received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Masters of Teaching in Secondary Mathematics. She shares her love of mathematics with 7th and 8th graders each day in her Algebra I and Geometry classes.
Wise has worked with Educational Testing Services at Princeton to establish a cut score for the Middle Level Mathematics Praxis Test, served with the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee as a member of the 6-8 Mathematics Standard Review Board, and represented our state as a math expert at the standards setting meeting for the National Center and State Collaborative.
Later this year, she will travel to Hamburg, Germany for the International Congress on Mathematical Education where she will present on Student Learning Communities. She is also one of South Carolina’s finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
