ProTeam students at Hughes Academy in Greenville, SC have been busy with a variety ot projects. They have been working with a fifth grade class at Blythe Academy to mentor students and teach the argument writing process/ TDA using RACE model paragraphs.
Their first "warm-up" project was to solicit survey responses from the sixth and seventh grade students at their school. The conducted polls about school culture and about how ProTeam could best serve the school's students. They offered a front-end incentive by handing out bottled water with words of encouragement during their advisory classes and asked them to complete a short survey. They had more than 500 verified responses.
Michael Coggins is the instructor at Hughes Academy. He stated, "This class has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my career so far. We're deep into a school-based community service project where our students are utilizing a t-shirt sponsorship to raise funds for each student to receive a mesh drawstring bag in which to transport PE clothes to and from the gym (free of charge!)."
Below you can view a student-produced video of their first project.
