South Carolina National Board Network Honored for Engagement and Mobilization
Today, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards recognized 21 National Board Networks that model excellence in support of the National Board’s mission.
The South Carolina National Board Network (SCNBN) has championed National Board Certification among SC teachers. They have actively communicated with legislators about the impact that National Board Certification has on both teachers and students and the value of this important retention tool. NBCTs across the state engaged in a letter writing campaign and network hill days supported by the SCNBN, to express what National Board Certification has meant to them. In 2021, the legislators reinstated the salary supplement that is given to NBCTs. The network also continues to support candidates for initial certification and for Maintenance of Certification.
Across the country, 76 National Board networks play a key role in building and sustaining National Board certification, supporting educators who wish to challenge themselves and prove they teach to the profession’s highest standards. The networks also build pathways for National Board Certified Teachers to serve leadership roles throughout their region and state.
“This recognition matters because it shows the power of advocacy in practice. The SCNBN provided opportunities for NBCTs across the state to engage with policymakers and education leaders about the importance of National Board and the impact it has on student achievement. This recognition recognizes that,” said Craig King, NBCT, Communications Director of the SCNBN.
“We are proud of the impact the SCNBN has on educators throughout the state. Not only are we helping initial candidates on their journey through the National Board process, but we are empowering NBCTs to be active and have a voice in leadership roles around the state. For many who ask, ‘What’s next?’ after gaining certification, the SCNBN provides one possible answer,” commented Sabrina Williams, NBCT, Vice Chair of the SCNBN.
“Our staff is dedicated and we push ourselves daily to impact education nationwide. All the networks consistently deliver on the ground in states and districts across the whole country. We are grateful for each network’s unique contributions advancing our mission. I’m especially excited to honor the awardees for standing out as exemplary. We’re lucky to have their partnership,” said Peggy Brookins, NBCT, President CEO of the National Board for Professional
Teaching Standards.
National Board Honors ProgramNational Board Network Honors is presented in five areas which can be earned by multiple networks each year. The SCNBN was recognized for their work in Engagement and Mobilization.

About the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (www.nbpts.org):
The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by: maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards, and advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers. Recognized as the “gold standard” in teacher certification, the National Board believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students.
