BY KAREN PACK karen@cerra.org ProTeam students led by Agnes Hamilton at New Ellenton Middle School have taken on the responsibility of creating a monthly bulletin board displaying birthdays of the student body. The bulletin board helps to build a sense of community among the students and provides the ProTeam students an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the school each month. The crafters for February are Kinsley Mullins and Brianna Burns. BY KAREN PACK ProTeam students in Agnes Hamilton's Schofield Middle School class explored their interests and career clusters, thinking about the different directions they will head moving into the future. A special guest for this lesson was Mr. Saunders, the Career Specialist at Schofield MS. Student interests included education, health related services, business, marketing, and human services. Pictured are students completing the Interest Survey.
BY KAREN PACK ProTeam instructors Jocelyn Jones, Agnes Hamilton, and the guidance department accompanied both semester classes to visit USC Aiken, specifically the Education Department. They began their visit with a tour of the childcare facility where the students were able to interact with the children. From there, they visited the dorms and met with Teaching Fellows scholarship recipients. The ProTeamers were able to really learn about the Teaching Fellows Scholarship and also more about being successful in college. Dr. Beck, the Dean of the College of Education took the time to speak to the ProTeam classes! Their visit culminated by having lunch with the Teaching Fellows. During lunch, the Teaching Fellows rotated from table to table answering questions and interacting with the ProTeam students. Instructor, Agnes Hamilton summed up the experience by stating, "It was awesome!"
BY KAREN PACK ProTeam Instructor, Patrick Newsome recently took 12 students on a field trip to Jefferson Elementary School. The ProTeam students taught math lessons in Kindergarten-5th grade classrooms. Hands-on activities were used to teach concepts in place value, measurement, telling time, fractions, and geometry!
This is a perfect segue from ProTeam to Teacher Cadet. A few years ago, these students were across the street in Palmetto Middle School's ProTeam class. Now, they are a part of a larger group of Teacher Cadets at Palmetto High! Anderson 1 is truly "Growing their own!"
BY KAREN PACK ProTeam Instructor Patrick Newsome's students were learning how to be effective listeners in the lesson, "Listen Up!" Using the three reasons for listening: to retain, to understand, and to establish trust and confidence, students wrote and performed short skits on the importance of being an effective listener.

My class collaborated on the Career Boardwalk activity by coming to consensus about the most important qualities to look for with careers. We placed the most important qualities on the top row, the next important on the middle row, and the qualities they considered least important on the bottom row. Since my floor has checkerboard tile, it made a great foundation for the activity. The ProTeam class at Williston-Elko Middle School is led by Ms. Betsy Portune. Portune was the district's teacher of the year.
The class will be featured in an upcoming promotional video for the ProTeam Program. |
