Application
The Teaching Fellows application is available online September 1 through December 1. Applications must be submitted online by December 1. In order for applications to be considered complete, a high school transcript and three (3) references on official forms must be obtained and sent to CERRA, postmarked by December 16. Applications, transcripts, and references are then assessed by an initial screening committee.

Interview
Qualifying applicants are invited to a regional interview, and all applicants are notified as to whether they have been selected for this second phase of the process.The purpose of the interview is to assess the following: communication skills, commitment to teaching, problem solving ability, originality and knowledge of world and educational processes.

Writing
Applicants will be scheduled to complete a thirty (30) minute writing prompt during the interview. Scores from the interview and writing prompt will be combined with the initial application score to make up a final total composite score. A maximum of 175 of the top scorers will be offered Teaching Fellowships. Other qualifying applicants will be placed on an alternate list.

Eligibility

To apply for Teaching Fellows, you must be:

  • a United States citizen
  • a legal resident of South Carolina
  • a high school senior

Steps to Apply

  • Complete the application online by December 1.
  • Print three (3) copies of the official reference form and have the forms completed. One form must be completed by one of your current teachers, one should be completed by a current or former high school teacher, and one should be completed by an additional person who is not related to you. Please instruct your references to seal the completed form in an envelope, sign their name across the seal, and return the sealed envelope to you.
  • Print the letter for your Guidance Counselor, fill in the necessary information, and bring the letter to him/her so that he/she may send an official transcript to CERRA on your behalf.
  • Place your three (3) completed, sealed references in one envelope and mail them to CERRA postmarked by December 16.
  • Follow up with your Guidance Counselor to ensure that an official transcript is sent to CERRA postmarked by December 16.
  • If your SAT or ACT scores are NOT included on the transcript sent to CERRA, have an official score report sent to CERRA postmarked by December 16. The SAT code is 3680 and the ACT code is 3873.
  • All application materials should be mailed to:
