Facts and Figures 

 

  • As of June 30, 2011, a total of 917 Teaching Fellows from the 2000-2006 cohorts have graduated from the Program. This number results in a 75.1% program completion rate.
  • 71% of all Fellows graduates (651 Fellows) are currently employed in 75 South Carolina public school districts.
  • Of the 651 Fellows graduates who are teaching, 53.5% (348) teach in Geographic Critical Need Schools. These schools meet at least one of the following three criteria:

               1. An absolute rating of Below Average or At Risk
               2. A teacher turnover rate of 20% or higher for the past three years
               3. A poverty index of 70% or higher (determined by students eligible for Medicaid or subsidized
                   lunch)

  • Of the 261 Teaching Fellows who have satisfied their loan through service, 84.7% are still teaching.
  • The program is funded through the South Carolina General Assembly, and as such the number of students admitted to each cohort is contingent upon the availability of funds appropriated by the General Assembly.

    The following 11 colleges and universities were selected through an application process to be host institutions for the Teaching Fellows Program. Each institution supports a cohort of students and provides additional instruction which makes the Fellows experience unique.
