State of National Board in South Carolina

The SC legislature passed provisos 1A.1 and 1A.43.  The following is provided for information concerning supplements.

  • The salary supplement continues at the $7500 level for anyone who has been certified or completed the application process (as an initial candidate) prior to July 1, 2010.
  • Beginning with the 2009 applicants, the supplement shall be paid in the year following the year of achieving certification.  For example, if a person applied during the calendar year 2009 and received certification in the fall of 2010, their supplement will not begin until the current (2011-12) school year.
  • If an NBCT enters into a renewal cycle (in their 8th or 9th year of certification), they will receive a 2nd ten year salary supplement (at the $7500 level), if the NB process was initially started prior to July 1, 2010.  The July 1, 2010 deadline refers to their initial application to NB.
  • If an NBCT waits until their 9th year of certification to begin the renewal process, they could see a lapse in their NB supplement.  NBCTs are encouraged to begin the renewal process in their 8th year of certification.
  • If a person applies after July 1, 2010, and is certified by the National Board, they will receive a $5000 salary supplement in the year of achieving certification, not to exceed 10 years of the national certificate.
