Research from The Center
Upcoming research reports
The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement is presently working on the following research reports with planned release in Fall/Winter 2008.
- National Board Certified Teachers Survey
2008 Survey of Certified, Inactive Teachers in South Carolina
There are approximately 20,000 individuals in South Carolina who have kept their teaching certification current but are no longer teaching in a South Carolina public school. This critical piece of information, along with their contact information, provided by the State Department of Education enabled CERRA to target these certified, inactive teachers and find out what measures would convince them to teach again.
Supply and Demand Survey
Annually CERRA conducts a statewide Supply and Demand Survey in which information is collected from all school districts in South Carolina. The compiled survey is made available in October through www.CERRA.org and presents an overall view of trends in teacher retention, sources of employee hires, and much more for the current school year. This information is used to project teacher shortage areas by subject area and by district.
Local National Board Summit Recommendation Report
Malia Dunn, a National Board Certified Teacher in Chesterfield County and former member of the CERRA Advisory Board, hosted the state's first-ever Local National Board Summit at Hartsville Middle School on September 29, 2007. NBCTs from surrounding counties attended the summit and generated recommendations pertinent to National Board Certified Teachers at the local level. The full report, released in November 2007 is available for download.
