For immediate release, May 8, 2009
COLUMBIA, SC — SC/NSPRA, the largest statewide organization devoted to effective school communications, honored Mychal Frost with the Leader in School Public Relations Award for newcomers.
The award program recognizes two school public relations professionals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to and leadership in their profession as evidenced by their accomplishments at the local and/or state levels. The newcomer category recognizes a professional with three years or less experience in school public relations, while the veteran award goes to an individual with four or more years in the field.
“Our organization recognizes the important role of valuable communication,” said SC/NSPRA President Mary Anne Byrd. “Student achievement is greatly increased with effective home-school relations and support from the community. South Carolina school communication efforts have been recognized nationally so we have some of the best professionals right here in our state.”
Frost is in his third year as the public information coordinator at the SC Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA).
CERRA Executive Director Gayle Sawyer said, “Mychal has brought a level of professionalism and creativity that has lead to the development of new contacts and procedures and promotional materials suited to the needs of our organization.”
She said his talents in writing, graphic design and Web technology have allowed the organization to reach its goals to present a positive image and to better educate the general public about its services.
Originally from Lexington, Ky., Frost received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication from Winthrop University in 2006. Prior to taking the position at CERRA, he interned with the Winthrop University Athletic Department, Charlotte Knights and Carolina Panthers.
