CERRA Board Fills 10 Seats

 

ROCK HILL— The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) recently added 10 education advocates representing public and private sectors including K-12 educators and administrators, institutions of higher education and business leaders to its Board of Directors.

The following members will hold seats on the CERRA Board until June 2011:

  • Rep. Lewis “Gene” Pinson, District 13 Greenwood County
  • Dr. Steve Hefner, Superintendent, Richland School District Two
  • Jim Turner, Director of Educator Certification, S.C. Department of Education
  • Barbara Smoak, Manager of Education Outreach Programs, Washington Savannah River Company
  • Dr. Jeff Priest, Dean, School of Education, USC-Aiken
  • Dr. Fran Welch, Dean, School of Education, Health, and Human Performance, College of Charleston
  • Dr. Tom Faulkenberry, Dean, School of Education and Graduate Studies, Converse College
  • John Robinson, Executive Director, South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators
  • Tracey Johnson, Guidance Counselor, Lake Marion High School
  • Ruth Taylor, Science Teacher, Mayo High School for Math and Science 

CERRA, an independent state agency located on the campus of Winthrop University, is the oldest and most established teacher recruitment program in the country. The purpose of CERRA is to provide leadership in identifying, attracting, placing and retaining well-qualified individuals for the teaching profession in South Carolina. CERRA’s programs have been adopted at school, district and state levels in more than 30 states in the United States.
