As workshops are scheduled throughout the year information will be posted on this page. For more information contact your local district's National Board Liaison.
PSTA Sponsored Trainings
PSTA will offer professional development workshops for National Board Certification candidates across the Palmetto State. These workshops are designed to support first-time candidates and National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) who have applied to renew certificates. All workshops will be led by Kathy Schwalbe, Director of Professional Development. Due to the nature of the NB certification process, workshop agendas will focus on topics that candidates will find useful; however, candidates will also be given time to ask questions and network with other candidates in order to explore challenges of the process with other accomplished teachers. Schwalbe was one of SC's first NBCTs achieving certification in EA/ELA in 1995. She renewed her certification in the first wave of renewal candidates in 2005. She has conducted candidate support workshops and trainings for District Liaisons and candidate support providers in SC and across the nation for 11 years. She is one of twenty-four NBCTs in the nation who sits on the NBCT Faculty for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She administered the NB Loan Program at CERRA from its inception until June 2007. PSTA will also host after-school or Saturday workshops for individual districts or regions. For more information about how to request a workshop, contact Kathy Schwalbe at kschwalbe@comcast.net or 843.573.7794.
