Program of Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE) Approved Subject Areas

Effective July 1, 2007, the geographical critical district list has been dissolved. This change allows PACE applicants who meet all admission criteria in one of the approved PACE subject areas to seek employment in any South Carolina public school district. Additional certification areas have been added to the list of PACE approved subjects.

Teacher Loan Program Approved Subject Areas

A teacher may also qualify for the Teacher Loan Cancellation program if he/she teaches in a subject area designated as a Critical Need subject area. The subject areas designated for 2006-2007 are:
  • Agriculture
  • Art
  • Business Education
  • Dance
  • English/Language Arts
  • Family and Consumer Science (Home Economics)
  • Industrial Technology
  • Foreign Language (Spanish, French, Latin & German)
  • Library Science (Media Specialist)
  • Middle Level areas Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Science (all areas)
  • Special Education (all areas)
  • Speech & Drama, Theatre
  • Speech Language Therapist
State Board of Education identified schools in rural areas of South Carolina where teachers may repay their South Carolina Teachers Loan by teaching. The schools selected were identified those serving low socioeconomic students in rural areas. A list of these schools is found by visiting the SC Student Loan Corporation.
