Teaching in South Carolina

Once successfully recruited into teaching, educators need assistance in locating suitable positions. Schools districts also seek ready access to qualified candidates. The CERRA Teacher Job Bank allows schools and districts to locate job candidates and advertise openings to teachers looking for positions.

Teachers may use the Job Bank by filling out an online application and submitting it to the Center along with a copy of their teaching certificate.

CERRA maintains a statewide teaching position
vacancy list through the Job Bank and accessible in this section. Also, information about teacher salaries in South Carolina, shortage areas and initial certification is available.

Each summer CERRA co-sponsors the South Carolina Teacher Expo. The Expo is a teacher job/information fair that brings together teachers looking for new professional opportunities and South Carolina school districts looking for excellent teachers. The Expo is advertised nationally and attracts participants from a number of states.

South Carolina, like other states, is experiencing a shortage in its
minority teacher supply. The shortages of teachers are determined annually by the State Board of Education. The Current Profile of the Teaching Population in South Carolina includes the number of teachers overall, the number of teachers by race and ethnicity, the average years of experience, etc.
