FEA: Future Educators Association's influence in South Carolina
The 2008 South Carolina FEA State Conference will be held at the College of Charleston July 25-26. More information to follow.
In 2006-2007, CERRA proudly became the South Carolina contact for the Future Educators Association, a coordinated program of Phi Delta Kappa, International (PDK), located in Bloomington, Indiana. Because of PDK's commitment to students and to the future of the teaching profession, it became the sponsoring organization of FEA in 1994. Today, Phi Delta Kappa, founded in 1906, has nearly 50,000 members. Until 1994, the FEA was known by various names - most notably, Future Teachers of America and then Future Educators of America. In 2005, PDK changed the name to Future Educators Association to more accurately reflect the international nature of the organization. FEA's mission is to provide students with opportunities to explore careers in education. There are approximately 1,000 chapters across the United States, England, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain. CERRA is excited by the overwhelming growth of the FEA program in South Carolina! More than 45 chapters were formed during the 2006-07 school year. Let's keep growing! WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE FEA? The Future Educators Association shall: - Strive to interest students in the field of education early in their school experience
- Place a strong emphasis on the recruitment of future educators with diverse ethnic, racial, social and economic backgrounds
- Strive to promote excellence in students interested in the teaching profession by promoting academic achievement, developing a positive self-image, and encouraging leadership responsibilities
- Enhance the quality of the school's educational program by fostering an appreciation for teaching and contributing to the smooth operation of the school
- Promote a positive image of education to students, parents, and the community and disseminate information about the teaching profession
- Encourage members to be positive role models in the school, the organization and the community
